F is for Friend

Last week I sat on the floor of my duplex with two good friends and crafts. I say good because I’ve known both of them for over a year now, closer to two. They’ve been around through my growing pains, and they love me.

Perhaps it doesn’t matter what I label my friendships, but lately I’ve been thinking about this a lot. Especially in light of dating, I realize you need a friend and to be a friend first. So what does it mean to be friends, how do I, be a friend?

Thoughts for today:

  • Call them, text them
  • Listen to them talk about things you don’t always care about
  • Bound with them over common interests or silly laughs
  • Hug them when they need a hug
  • Give them space when they need to think
  • Tell them your thoughts
  • Share with them the things you love
  • Go with them places
  • Ask them to go with you places
  • Make fun while with them
  • Be open to their opinon

I will definitely write about this again, as I think through it. If you have any thoughts about what it takes to be a friend, PLEASE share them! I really want to figure out what it means to me, to be a friend to others and care for them. I’m even buying a fish! Supposedly, buying a living creature that needs tending to helps establish commitment to friendship… sounds kind of funny, but that’s what my friend's psychologist mom said, so I’m going for it! It will be fun. And I can decide once and for all if I am an animal person.

I will report soon.
